Myth vs fact

Common misunderstandings

Myth
"Inhalers are habit-forming, and using one means my asthma is severe."
Fact

Inhalers are not addictive. They deliver medicine straight to the lungs, so smaller doses are needed. Many people with mild asthma use them.

Myth
"Asthma is a childhood problem, and you outgrow it or can never control it."
Fact

Asthma can begin or continue at any age. With the right treatment and follow-up, most people can keep it well controlled.

Myth
"Snoring is harmless."
Fact

Occasional snoring is common, but loud, regular snoring with tiredness or pauses in breathing can be a sign of sleep apnea and is worth checking.

Myth
"A cough that lasts for weeks will settle on its own."
Fact

A cough lasting more than 2–3 weeks should be evaluated. Early checks help find the cause sooner.

Seasonal alert: rainy season and winter

Damp air, cold weather and infections can trigger cough, wheeze and breathlessness. Keep your prescribed inhalers and medicines with you, avoid smoke and dust, and see a doctor early if symptoms worsen.

Patient FAQs

Your questions, answered

Is asthma treatable?

Asthma can't usually be cured, but it can be controlled very well with the right medicines, avoiding triggers and regular follow-up. Most people can lead normal, active lives.

How do lung infections spread?

Many spread through tiny droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Covering your mouth when coughing, washing hands, ventilation and recommended vaccines help reduce the risk.

How is snoring treated?

It depends on the cause. Weight management, sleep position, treating nasal problems and, where needed, a sleep study to check for sleep apnea. Your doctor will suggest the right option.

How can I quit smoking?

Quitting is easier with a plan: set a date, get support from family and your doctor, and consider counselling and medicines that reduce cravings. It's never too late to benefit.

What is ILD?

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a group of conditions that cause inflammation or scarring in the lung tissue, leading to cough and breathlessness. Early evaluation helps in planning treatment.
